The story

I was the first car at an intersection. The light turns green, I enter the intersection. I see, to my right, a vehicle crossing the intersection against the red light going full speed, completely oblivious to the fact that they have a red light. I hit my brakes, and moments later I am rear-ended by the car behind me, a nissan pathfinder.

Here you can see the back of the car. The most apparent damage is to the passenger side tail lamp cluster.

A view from the rear quarter shows that the rear panel has been indented, causing the bumper trim to "roll" upwards, and both tail clusters to cant inwards

You can see the extent to which the rear panel was pushed in. The trunk will not open -- the trunk lid is 1-2" away from the lock cylinder carrier on the rear panel.

closeup of the passenger lamp cluster damage

These two images show the irregular panel gap between the trunk lid and the quarter panel. This gap should be nearly uniform everywhere. You can see that the trunk lid bows higher than the quarter panel.

Again, look at the panel gap. The trunk lid is jammed up against the rear parcel shelf. Not the non-uniformity of the gap

This is the real big problem. The panel gap between the passenger rear quarter and the passenger rear door is gone below the feature line, but present above it. This door has to be slammed shut and pulled hard to get it open.

This is the drivers side rear door. Note the lack of gap below the feature-line. This door opens and closes more easily than the passenger side.

This image shows the obvious inward cant of the two tail-lamp clusters, and the creases in the rear panel.

The drivers tail cluster has tilted/canted inwards, as a result the wrap-around portion of the cluster has unseated from the drivers quarter panel

The same thing has happened on the passenger side, but to a larger extent. If you look closely, a sliver of paint just below the feature-line has also lifted off of the metal as a result of the tail cluster being pushed and twisted against the painted metal.

So far:

Body Shop Estimate: $3300

Insurance Check: $2100

Also not pictured, the drivers seat back tilt mechanism was damaged during the impact. THe seat cannot tilt forward or backwards any longer.
